Modern Family

On Saturday, the cold that I've been holding at bay started making another fierce attempt to surface.  Instead of shopping earlier in the day, Roon and I thought it would be an excellent idea to take our kids to run errands right around dinner time.  After all, tired and hungry kids beat the pants off happy and normal kids, any day.  We wanted a challenge!

A fairly uneventful trip to Costco was followed by a less than desirable trip to Walmart.  I can't really blame my children for the fighting, crying, and general mayhem.  After all, I was tired, hungry and cranky too!

While standing in line to checkout, and knowing that we had at least one more stop to make, Roon suggested I run over to the McDonald's by the front entrance, and grab the kids some cheeseburgers.

What seemed like an hour later, we left the store.  Purchases, children, and completely unbalanced meal in hand.  Roon loaded the bags into the back of our van, while I buckled the kids, and distributed their dinner.

Boo, ecstatic with her nutritionally lacking meal, looked up at me, smiled, and said "Dane doo, Sam!"(For those of you who don't speak "toddler", that was "Thank you, Sam!")

We had a quick conversation about how inappropriate it was for her to call me "Sam", and told her that she had to call me "Mommy" instead.

This morning, Boo asked me for a snack.

"Can you open dem?"

"Sure!"

"Tanks, Sam!"

"What did you just say?!"

"Tanks, Sam?"

"What are you SUPPOSED to call me?"

"Mommy."

"You wanna try that again?"

"Yes.  Tanks, Sam!"

Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of a modern family when you least expect it...
Now how do I make it stop?

Yeah, they go through a stage where they think it's hilarious to call us by our real names. I am not thrilled with that stage, but I'm just glad they don't say, "Hey, @$$hole!"

Well, she coulda said 'tanks, bitch.' I did that before to my mom. I think it was just last week.

I think it's cute that she calls you Sam. =)

Lol! It will pass. :) Just get super excited when she calls you mommy, make it more fun for her.

And even happy kids and walmart can be a recipe for disaster.

By the way I got my 12 days of Christmas packages from my swap partner today, so so hard not to just open them all now!!! So so beautifully wrapped!

When I used to teach preschool, the kids (particularly the boys) went through a period where I was "Jen Poo-Poo," "Jen Butt-Butt, or (my personal favorite *note dripping sarcasm*), "Poo-Poo Butt-Butt." Followed by copious laughter. Could be worse.

My husband prides himself on teaching our girls to say my name. It completely & totally pisses me off (which is probably why he does it). I ignore them till they stop. I. AM. MOMMY. Period!

Ha! I had that problem with my son for a while, too! I eventually had my hubby start calling me Mommy instead of Amy. It worked. Though he still sometimes calls Jeffrey by his name. Silly kids.

Hahahahaha. Ah, yes. The wonderful toddler days. They're not too far in my rearview mirror. I remember the first time Isaiah stood at the bottom of the stairs and yelled up at his dad "WAKE UP, MICHAEL!!!!" I think he had heard me do that one too many times. He was maybe 2 1/2 or 3 at the most. I laughed.
