Double Your Pleasure, Double the Fun

I'm not sure how many of you know this, but I grew up in a house with twins.  Twin BOYS to be exact.

When you grow up with twins, it's completely natural for one of two things to happen.

1, you can begin to thoroughly despise all things double, or 2, you can become intrigued with the phenomenon.

My little sister, Boogs, and I chose the latter.

If, by some chance, somebody bought us matching outfits, we would go hog wild.  Not only would we wear the outfits, but we would do our hair the same, and go to great lengths to match as much as humanly possible.  One time, Boogs even insisted that I learn sign language, because my teeth were yellower than hers, and THAT would give us away.
Yeah, because the 4-6 inches in height difference wouldn't do that...

Once we were properly disguised, we would venture out to where our mother was, and ask if she could tell us apart.

I wish I was kidding.

20 years later, I find it funny that history has begun to repeat itself.  With Sissy.

Sissy has heard her entire life that she looks like me.  As her personality began to emerge, she heard the she was JUST LIKE ME.  Because she is.  This comes as no surprise, really.  I am JUST like my mother too.

Recently, Sissy has become OBSESSED with being my twin.  Especially if we are going to be in public.  Therefore, Tuesdays and Thursdays have become my designated uniform days.  My outfit is carefully chosen for me the night before, and consists of jeans, and one of 3 school fundraiser T-shirts that she and I both possess.

No, I'm not complaining.  I don't think there is anything wrong with matching my daughter.  Heaven knows that soon enough she will be embarrassed to be seen in public with me regardless of what I'm wearing.  Plus, let's not forget that I AM still fascinated with twins, and wish that I would have had a twin sister growing up.

My only complaint is that going out in public was usually my excuse to get dressed up.  It was my opportunity to get OUT of my jeans and T-shirt rut, and feel fancy.

However, nothing makes me feel more fancy and important than the look of jubilation on Sissy's face when I walk into her classroom dressed just like her.

Those fancy designers have nothin' on me...

I always wished I was a twin, too. And now, I hope that some day I will have twins. Don't know why.
My mother told me that she dressed us alike when I was a baby. I don't know why she chose to dress me like her when I have three other sisters and none of them ever was her twin. I am just lucky I guess.
How sweet that your daughter wants to be/look just like you. What a huge compliment. And it is true, the look on her face would be way better then wearing anything stylish. How sweet!

There aren't any twins in my family but my grandmother sure tried to make us look like we were multiples. (From what I hear she did the same thing but worse to my Dad and his brother--they were only 11 months apart.) Sometimes even my Mom got a matchy shirt. And they were those horrible shirts with the neckband stuff around the sleeves AND the bottom of the shirt, so you were totally sealed into the shirt. (Grandma is deathly afraid of bugs and was always sure that every moth in a two mile radius was headed down her shirt).

I chose the first option, of despising all things matchy. I've been known to make Jared change if he comes out wearing a shirt the same color as mine and if he wears his khaki shorts I won't wear my khaki capris that day.

BUT bonus for you that that is one less thing you have to think about on Tuesday and Thursday mornings! I actually wondered about that on Tuesday when you were both wearing your pink shirts...

Oh, that is SO sweet that Sissy wants to dress and be like you! In front of her friends, no less!
And? I bust out laughing like a hyena when I read the part about you guys asking your mom if she could tell the difference. CJ is sitting here half dead and he's looking at me like I'm a moron.
What's new, though? lol!!

How sweet is that?!? I hope Emma wants to be my twinkie in a few years. It would melt my heart! Unless she wants me to dress up in princess attire and high heels. I have my limits.

OMGosh. That is probably the sweetest thing I have ever heard! I love that she plans out the days you're going to do it. (Savor these moments... I hear that when she's 14 she won't even acknowledge your existence.)

I'm fascinated by twins too. I want some.

James and Tommy are 15 months apart... clearly NOT twins... but when one gets mad at the other he'll shout... "You're not my twin anymore!"

girls are cute that way. And i agree eat it up before she walks 10 steps ahead of you :)

Oh my gosh that is sooooo sweet!!! I too am obsessed with twins. I thought from about age 11 that I would have twins. Once I started having kids I either wanted twins my first go around (you know, because I wouldn't know any different) Of course if I do get to have another I think I'd probably freak out a little if I ended up with twins LOL. You have a sweet sweet little lady & what a great mamma you must be that she wants to be just like you :)

This is fantastic! I've always wanted to be a twin, but would've even settled for a sister!

I definitely went through the matching phase with my friends/family members, but never my mother! You are one lucky duck!!

That is AWESOME! I too am obssessed with twins, and always wished I was one!

That makes US twins, right?

Also, since I wasn't a twin, I always wished I would HAVE twins when I became a mom. I don't wish that anymore!
